Re-creation of the St. Peter's Dome Model ,commissioned by Michelangelo, now on display at the Vatican Museum. Michelangelo had several models made of the dome at the time he worked on it. For centuries Architects have often made models to check details in 3D and to help customers understand the project.
Architectural models were made by artisans showing off their skills. Highly collectible already in the 18th Century, they were put to use as reliquaries or to show off a precious collection of artifacts such as shells, coral or unique minerals.
